Theatre Time : watching the play (Golden Dragon) at Jagriti

Hi

The Golden Dragon was a class act.

It was a infoedutaining experience watching the play "Golden Dragon " yesterday with my wife and sister in law at Jagriti Theatre.

The cast was totally uninhibited and took the expereince to a different level . In one hour using the setting of the Golden Dragon resturant as the centrepiece. they covered different layers of games that Human beings have played across cultures, genders apart from touching on many other sensitive issues.

More details below :)

The Golden Dragon

January 13-29, 2012

The Golden Dragon, Germany’s most successful new play, is the second in the 6-play Jagriti Season that started in December and runs through to June 2012. The prolific German playwright, Roland Schimmelpfennig and his English translator, David Tushingham have come up with another stage success that won the Olivier Award for the Actors Touring Company at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2011.

The Golden Dragon is a tragicomic tale of globalization, set in your local Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese takeaway. ‘A glorious interconnectedness of life’s rich tapestry and instant karma that gives genuine food for thought, which travels everywhere and nowhere in a deconstructed soap opera about modern migration.’ (The Herald)

Through fun moments, this theatrical fable deals with larger socio-economic issues of modern life and migration, whisking you from your local takeaway to East Asia and back, revealing what really goes into that bowl of spicy soup.

Playwright: Roland Schimmelpfennig | Translation: David Tushingham | Director: Ramin Gray | Company: Actors Touring Company, UK

Presented by Jagriti and The British Council and supported by The Goethe Institut.

The cast was Ann Firbank | Ciaran Kellgren | David Beames| Jack Tarlton | Judith Amsenga
